Sheffield United have had to endure a torrid start to the new Premier League campaign but are rated a value bet to steady the ship by beating Leeds at Bramall Lane.
The visitors have looked good going forward so far, but very naive at the back and that could prove decisive in a tight Yorkshire derby.
We’re backing the Blades to oblige at 17/10 for our opening Sheff Utd vs Leeds prediction.
A Look At Sheffield United’s Betting Odds
Chris Wilder’s side exceeded all expectations last term and must now again show their battling qualities following a couple of frustrating defeats.
The Blades conceded twice inside six minutes when losing 2-0 to Wolves here first up and then had John Egan sent off early on during Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.
After going down to 10 men, John Lundstram had a penalty saved at Villa Park before Ezri Konsa’s second-half header settled the issue.
Despite those setbacks, there have been some positives for United, with new signings Oli Burke and Ethan Ampadu showing encouraging signs.
Chris Basham commented on SUTV: “We’ll work hard on the training ground and be ready to go again versus Leeds.
“The manager hates losing games and we’re hurting, but it’s up to us to bounce back and put it right.
“We’ve seen how good Leeds have been since coming back into the Premier League, so it’s a big game for us but it’s an opportunity to turn things around in a Yorkshire derby.”
The Blades claimed nine victories in the league last term by a one-goal margin and would settle for a narrow success on this occasion.
Last Sheff Utd line-up: Ramsdale, Baldock, Stevens, O’Connell, Basham, Egan, Fleck, Lundstram, Berge, Burke, McGoldrick.
A Look At Leeds United’s Betting Odds
Leeds have been involved in a couple of cracking seven-goal thrillers so far, losing out 4-3 at Liverpool but then shading Fulham by the same scoreline on home turf.
The Whites appeared to be cruising at 4-1 up with an hour gone last weekend, thanks to Helder Costa’s brace, a Mat Klich penalty and Patrick Bamford’s cool finish.
However, it was all hands on deck after the Cottagers struck twice in five minutes soon after, although Marcelo Bielsa insisted he will not be changing tactics.
“What the matches have showed was that we have to continue doing what made us successful in the first place,” he said.
“That’s the best way to get a result, rather than putting men behind the ball. It would be an error to stop doing those things that make you successful.”
That should ensure Leeds continue to be entertaining to watch, but such defensive frailties make them worth opposing, especially on the road.
We’re taking 19/2 for a 2-1 home win to finish off our Sheff Utd vs Leeds betting tips.
Last Leeds line-up: Meslier, Ayling, Koch, Cooper, Dallas, Harrison, Phillips, Klich, Bamford, Costa, Machado.
