Promotion odds for Sheffield United, MK Dons and Tranmere Rovers have been cut after their results this weekend, but Preston North End’s chance of returning to the Championship after two seasons have decreased after a 2-1 defeat at home to Crawley Town.
Despite a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Bury, the Blades’ odds on promotion have been cut to 3/2.
MK Dons and Tranmere picked up three points with the former beating Yeovil 1-0 and the latter keeping up their 100% home record with a 2-0 win against Coventry.
The Dons’ odds have shortened from 2/1 to 7/4 and Rovers’ are now 5/1 to be playing Championship football next term. They remain top of the table after six games.
Graham Westley’s Preston have moved slightly out to 7/2 after their defeat and sit in 11th position.
The biggest drifters this weekend were Coventry and Colchester. The Sky Blues slipped to 10/1 from 5/2 and Colchester’s defeat at home to Scunthorpe meant they went out to 33/1 from 20/1.
Looking at the winner’s market, Sheffield United are still favourites at 4/1, MK Dons are just behind at 5/1 and Paolo Di Canio’s Swindon are third favourites, but have drifted from 7/1 to 9/1 after drawing 2-2 away at Carlisle.
These three sides are currently 7th, 8th and 12th respectively, with Notts County the shortest price of the current top six at 10/1.
The three sides that were relegated from the Championship are having mixed fortunes. Doncaster are just outside the play offs and are priced at 16/1 to win the league. Portsmouth are probably doing better than they should be with the amount of new players and the off the field problems, but the defeat to Walsall has seen them drift from 50/1 to 100/1. Coventry are now 40/1 to win the league as they are currently 23rd.
The newcomers to the division from League Two are settling fine with Swindon and Crawley both good bets for successive promotions. Swindon are 5/2 to be promoted and Richie Barker’s men are 9/2. The other two sides, Crewe and Shrewsbury would be happy with survival, but they can be backed for promotion at 12/1 and 16/1 respectively.
