Saturday, January 7th
AC Siena v Lazio (6pm)
Home win: 43/20 Draw: 43/20 Away win: 13/10
Betting tip: Miroslav Klose might not have got the welcome Djibril Cisse got at Fiumicino Airport, yet he has so far proved to be one of the shrewdest buys of the mercato, with eight goals under his belt so far. At 7/5, he can be trusted to net against a shaky Siena defence.
Internazionale v Parma (8pm)
Home win: 2/5 Draw: 31/10 Away win: 8/1
Betting tip: Parma’s last two games have seen twelve goals. Their spectacular brand of football has only reaped two points and they are unlikely to come away with anything against an Inter side which seems to have finally turned a corner. Back Claudio Ranieri’s men to win a game containing four or more goals, quoted at 13/5.
Sunday, January 8th
Udinese v Cesena (12.30pm)
Home win: 43/100 Draw: 29/10 Away win: 77/10
Betting tip: Cesena’s form has gone through a rough patch since Daniele Arrigoni’s arrival, while Udinese have only conceded twice at home this season, making the 18/25 on the visitors not scoring a fair gamble.
Atalanta v Milan (3pm)
Home win: 4/1 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 7/10
Betting tip: German Denis is deadly in front of goal. He has 12 goals in 16 Serie A appearances this season and has scored in each of his last two games for Atalanta. Although he rarely scores braces (only two so far), he is always ready to pop up with a goal and at 7/5, the Argentine will give Thiago Silva plenty to worry about, not to mention Philippe Mexes, who as of yet does not have his manager’s trust.
Bologna v Catania (3pm)
Home win: 13/10 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 11/5
Betting tip: On the one hand we have Bologna, whose awful home record (five defeats) is dangerously undermining the team’s confidence. On the other, Catania have only notched one win on the road this season, and are cursed with a leaky defence. At 21/10, expect both sides to struggle with their own demons and come away with an equal share of the spoils.
Cagliari v Genoa (3pm)
Home win: 13/10 Draw: 2/1 Away win: 23/10
Betting tip: Cagliari have the third worst record in Serie A, with only one win against Novara. The visitors have, for their part, recently hired ex-Catania manager Pasquale Marino, who has encouraged the squad to play their hearts out to guarantee their place in his long-term plans. Can Marino’s troops respond with a win in a game with under 3.5 combined goals, quoted at 29/10? You bet they can.
Lecce v Juventus (3pm)
Home win: 6/1 Draw: 14/5 Away win: 1/2
Betting tip: Serse Cosmi certainly knows how to put the fear of God in his cadets. Since his arrival, Lecce have been involved in three high-octane games that scientists are trying to link to cardiac irregularities among the Salento faithful. After 16 goals in 270 minutes, including a crazy 3-3 draw against Parma, bet on at least four more going in at 11/5.
AS Roma v Chievo (3pm)
Home win: 31/50 Draw: 13/5 Away win: 19/4
Betting tip: With Osvaldo out, could this finally be Bojan’s chance to shine, after the imbecilic red card he got in Florence? At 2/1, he can be counted on against a defence that has let in 11 goals in its last five Serie A trips.
Novara v Fiorentina (3pm)
Home win: 2/1 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 7/5
Betting tip: La Viola are still looking for confidence under Delio Rossi- still, Novara shouldn’t be good enough to stop the quality at his disposal. At 4/1, back Fiorentina to grind out a win despite a 1:0 handicap.
Palermo v Napoli (8.45pm)
Home win: 21/10 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 13/10
Betting tip: A draw seems to be the best bet, as Napoli have failed to win in their last four away games. They have had many “last chance saloon” warnings by the press, and have so far failed to answer the call. Milan and Juventus are likely to increase the gap once more.
