Satuday, March 17th
Parma v AC Milan
Home Win: 23/5 Draw: 11/4 Away Win: 3/5
Key Stat: Milan have netted 12 goals in their last five Serie A away games.
Betting tip: Despite Milan’s chronic problems up front, they’ve managed to score against far tougher teams than Parma, making a multiple correct score bet of 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4 seem like a fair play to make at odds of 18/5.
Fiorentina v Juventus
Home Win: 14/5 Draw: 9/4 Away Win: 1/1
Key Stat: Juventus’ last four Serie A games have ended as draws.
Betting tip: Antonio Conte’s charges lack a cutting edge and four consecutive draws testify to just how profligate they are in front of goal. Forgetting the dubious refereeing decisions that have gone against them (they’re not that many, by the way), they need a striker capable of making a difference. At 7/10, back Fiorentina and Juventus to keep the score down by netting less than three combined goals.
Sunday, March 18th
Internazionale v Atalanta
Home Win: 3/5 Draw: 27/10 Away Win: 47/10
Key Stat: Atalanta are unbeaten in six games.
Betting tip: Bwin are offering a fantastic price to punters who back Atalanta to beat Inter at the San Siro. At 47/10, they can be trusted to beat an Inter side traumatised by Brandao’s lucky effort in the Champions League. Atalanta have the means to hurt Inter, starting from German Denis, fresh from his giant-killing of Roma.
Bologna v Chievo
Home Win: 6/5 Draw: 37/20 Away Win: 11/4
Key Stat: Stefano Pioli’s side have drawn with Juventus and beaten a dreadful Lazio side on the road.
Betting tip: Back Bologna to score against Chievo, with Gaston Ramirez likely to set up Marco Di Vaio as he did against Juventus. At 7/5, the ex-Parma striker’s on fire at the moment and can be backed to make a difference.
Catania v Lazio
Home Win: 13/10 Draw: 11/5 Away Win: 21/10
Key Stat: Catania were on the brink of moving into a European place last week, but that’s before they drew away to Cesena.
Betting tip: Odds of 3/4 on both teams scoring are too inviting to ignore, as Lazio’s offensive potential could see them strike against the Bellusci/Spolli partnership.
Siena v Novara
Home Win: 11/20 Draw: 27/10 Away Win: 11/2
Key Stat: Novara’s record against the other bottom five sides so far is appalling: one win, two draws and four defeats.
Betting tip: The feelgood effect of the return of Attilio ‘Il Komandante’ Tesser has allowed Novara to beat another top team in Udinese last week. The trouble is they might not hold the line against a side which will bombard them with a barrage of attacks. A home win seems the best bet at 11/20.
Lecce v Palermo
Home Win: 21/20 Draw: 47/20 Away Win: 51/20
Key Stat: Seven out of Lecce’s last eight goals have come in the second half.
Betting tip: At 23/20, back Serse Cosmi’s scrappers to score more goals in the second half than they do in the first. They often react late to deadlocks and are likely to do so again as Palermo look for a draw.
Udinese v Napoli
Home Win: 8/5 Draw: 11/5 Away Win: 17/10
Key Stat: Both sides are recovering from European disappointment, with Napoli blowing a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge.
Betting tip: I doubt Udinese and Napoli are ready to recover from their midweek eliminations and the stakes are so high they will probably buckle under the pressure. A draw seems the best outcome in what is likely to be a nervy, tense encounter, and it is worth backing at 11/5.
Monday, March 19th
Roma v Genoa
Home Win: 9/20 Draw: 31/10 Away Win: 25/4
Key Stat: Genoa haven’t kept a clean sheet on the road since December 10th.
Betting tip: Following their morale-boosting victory at the Renzo Barbera, Luis Enrique’s side seem to have finally found some coherence in their performances. Genoa should be unable to trouble them: at 21/20, back Roma to win in a game with three or more combined goals.
