AC Milan missed the opportunity to leapfrog Juventus into top spot in Serie A on Wednesday evening as they went down 2-0 to Lazio in Rome, leaving them a point behind the league leaders having played one game more.
The Rossoneri will be eager to ensure they keep up the pressure on their title rivals as they welcome seventh placed Napoli to the San Siro, a side they have already gone down to this season after finding themselves on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline back in September.
Previous encounters between the two sides point to a home banker, with Napoli not having won away against their hosts since 1986, and the defending champions head into this fixture priced at 73/100 favourites to collect maximum points.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side have only won once against the sides currently occupying the top seven this season, that coming with a 3-2 victory at Roma in October, but they will take comfort from the fact that they have won seven of their last eight games at home.
That success has in part been down to the league’s tightest home defence, with Diego Milito’s winner for Inter in the recent derby the only goal Milan have conceded at home in their last five matches, and just their fifth in the league this season.
Odds of 7/4 for a home win to nil looks appealing, particularly as Milan also boast the league’s best attack with 43 goals, and in Swedish international Zlatan Ibrahimovic they possess Serie A’s leading scorer.
The forward has found the back of the net on 15 occasions this season, and can be backed at 7/4 to open proceedings, or 1/1 to score at anytime.
Walter Mazzarri’s Napoli head into the game without a win in four, of which three were against sides in the bottom five, and they were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw with lowly Cesena in midweek.
With nine draws so far this campaign, more than any other side, the team from Naples have found it difficult to replicate the form that saw them finish third in the league last season, and are priced at 4/1 to win the game, with the draw 49/20.
Next up in the league following this fixture for Milan is a trip to Udinese, who sit just one place below them, so victory for AC will be essential to ensure they head into that match in high spirits, and they should have just enough to see of their visitors this afternoon.
