It took them a while to get going, but Rangers are finally starting to show the sort of dominant form that most people expected of them this season.
Having lost at Stirling Albion on October 6th to extend their winless away run in the league to four games, Ally McCoist’s side have won all three of their SFL matches since then 2-0 and thrashed Second Division Alloa 7-0 in the Scottish Cup for good measure.
They currently sit two points clear at the top of the league having played a game fewer than their nearest challengers and on Saturday they face a side who they hammered 5-1 at Ibrox in the second game of the season.
East Stirlingshire, however, are one of the league’s most inconsistent sides, so Rangers will have to be on their guard as they visit Ochilview Park looking to record their fourth straight league triumph.
John Coughlin’s side either win or lose. They are yet to draw a single match in any competition this season, having won four and lost six in Division Three and won three and lost three in the cups.
And given that almost all of the points Rangers have dropped up until now have come as the result of away draws, if there has to be a winner and loser then the omens don’t look good for the hosts.
With Rangers as short as 3/25 to pick up all three points, there isn’t much profit to be made backing this outcome. There is the potential for a huge profit by backing East Stirlingshire at 25/2, but that outcome is fairly unlikely, while a price of 6/1 on the draw reflects the home side’s lack of ties so far this campaign.
Instead, the best way to make money here is by backing goals.
Games involving East Stirling this season have averaged four goals apiece, while games involving Rangers have averaged more than three, so the goalkeepers should be kept busy throughout the 90 minutes on Saturday.
Bwin are offering odds of 13/20 on more than 3.5 goals being scored in the game, while five or more is on offer at 6/4.
New customers who sign up to bwin online qualify for a free £20 bet and using that to back more than 3.5 goals in the game at odds of 13/20 will return £33 if successful.
That is the bet I will be going for in this one, although using your free bet to back five or more goals at 6/4 will return £50 if successful, so the rewards are there if you are prepared to take more of a risk.
