Two of the sides facing the epic task of catching the Old Firm – and seemingly Motherwell – this season meet at Tannadice as Dundee United play host to Dunfermline for the afternoon; with drinks on arrival, light conversation and hopefully a wee game of football.
United are the odds-on favourites to get the three points at 7/10 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with the draw available at 12/5 and the visitors rated as 4/1 outsiders.
The Pars have made an encouraging start to life back in Scotland’s highest footballing tier and are currently unbeaten so far this season with a win and two draws in their opening three games. And with the league’s top scorer Andy Kirk in their side you may well be tempted by odds of 8/1 on them leading at half-time and then going on to pull off a precious away win.
United, however, might just fancy showing the new boys a thing or two and will perhaps be expecting a victory considering their home advantage.
Despite losing their last game to a rampant Celtic side, they were unbeaten in their previous three and emerged as 1-0 winners the last time these two sides met in the 2008 Scottish League Cup. Bwin offers odds of 13/2 on them repeating that particular scoreline, which means punters who back this outcome with the free £25 bet they receive for registering could win a tidy £187.50 if the result materialises.
Peter Houston’s side, though, must be feeling wounded somewhat by the departure of the delightfully named and amply talented David Goodwillie and such a crushing defeat at the hands of Celtic in their last outing can hardly have helped matters.
Both United and Dunfermline have shown a penchant for sharing the spoils so far this season, and given that three out of the last seven times the teams have met have ended in a draw, a similar result seems the most likely outcome this time around. With that in mind, the most tempting scoreline bet could be 2-2, which is priced at 15/1, although football betting fans can also back 0-0 and 1-1 stalemates at 27/4 and 25/4 respectively.
