The action kicks off early this weekend when Friday Night Football heads to Fir Park as third-placed Motherwell face Hibs. After that, it’s two more days of the SPL until Dundee United and Celtic bring the weekend to a close on Sunday lunchtime.

Friday, 2nd December

Motherwell v Hibernian (7.45pm)

Home win: 83/100   Draw: 23/10   Away win: 333/100

Key stat: Motherwell haven’t won in their last three at home

Betting tip: These two met in the League Cup earlier in the season, with Hibs winning on penalties after a 2-2 result. Expect another close game with Motherwell struggling at home and Hibs without a win in all of November. A repeat of that 2-2 score is priced at 14/1, but this could well be more boring a game than that, perhaps another 0-0 result, like Motherwell had last weekend. That is at odds of 27/4.

Saturday, 3rd December

Kilmarnock v Aberdeen (3.00pm)

Home win: 5/4   Draw: 11/5   Away win: 21/10

Key stat: Aberdeen’s 3-3 draw in Dunfermline last week quadrupled their season’s tally of away goals, but they still don’t have an away win.

Betting tip: After beating leaders Rangers, Kilmarnock will expect another home win against poor travellers Aberdeen. If those three away goals last weekend looked like a one-off, a bet on a home win to nil could prove good value at odds of 14/5.

Rangers v Dunfermline (3.00pm)

Home win: 7/50   Draw: 23/4   Away win: 17/1

Key stat: Dunfermline have played in Glasgow twice in the last fortnight, losing 2-1 on both occasions.

Betting tip: Another 2-1 defeat to follow those dealt out by St Mirren and Celtic is available at odds of 19/2.

Hearts v St Johnstone (3.00pm)

Home win: 19/20   Draw: 11/5   Away win: 29/10

Key stat: All three times these two met in Edinburgh last season, no side ever scored more than one goal.

Betting tip: The two 1-0 and one 1-1 results from last year don’t suggest many goals are in store on Saturday. A bet on under 1.5 goals in the game is priced at 9/5, while for under 2.5 goals there are odds of 3/5.

St Mirren v Inverness (3.00pm)

Home win: 21/20   Draw: 12/5   Away win: 47/20

Key stat: The SPL’s bottom side, Inverness, have conceded seven goals over their last two away games.

Betting tip: With St Mirren coming off a 5-0 thumping themselves, these two struggling defences could concede plenty of goals in this one, just like in the last meeting of these two at St Mirren Park, when the match finished 3-3. A punt on over 3.5 goals is at odds of 11/5, while odds of 21/4 are on offer for over 4.5 goals.

Sunday, 4th December

Dundee United v Celtic (12.45pm)

Home win: 4/1   Draw: 14/5   Away win: 31/50

Key stat: Dundee United have grabbed a goal in each of their last five meetings with Celtic.

Betting tip: Though Celtic outscored United 15 to five in those matches, and are expected to win a fifth SPL game in a row on Sunday, a bet on Dundee United to just score looks a wise move and is priced at odds of 9/20.
