After one of the most unpredictable starts to a Scottish season in years, October seems to be returning us to the norm. The national team failed to qualify for Euro 2012, Division 1 teams are beating SPL sides in the League Cup and the Old Firm both won last weekend. But how will this week go?
Saturday 29th October
Aberdeen v Rangers (12.00pm)
Home win: 11/2 Draw: 3/1 Away win: 12/25
Key stat: Rangers have not conceded an away goal in the league this season.
Betting tip: A win in this weekend’s lunchtime game would be Rangers’ 14th straight away win in the SPL. Having kept the ball out of their own net on the road so far this season, a win to nil at 7/5 makes a lot of sense.
Celtic v Hibernian (3.00pm)
Home win: 4/25 Draw: 21/4 Away win: 33/2
Key stat: Hibs have scored on their last six visits to Celtic Park.
Betting tip: While they may not take the points, history recommends a bet on Hibs to simply score against Celtic, as they did in Wednesday’s League Cup clash between these sides. That bet is priced at evens.
Dunfermline v Dundee Utd (3.00pm)
Home win: 2/1 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 5/4
Key stat: The last four matches between these sides have given fans just three goals.
Betting tip: With these meetings producing few goals in recent years, consider a bet on under 0.5 goals at 33/4 or on under 1.5 goals at 29/10.
Hearts v Kilmarnock (3.00pm)
Home win: 7/10 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 4/1
Key stat: Hearts have lost their last two games 2-0, while Kilmarnock won 2-0 on Tuesday to make the League Cup semis. On top of that, the last meeting between these two at Hearts was 2-0 to Kilmarnock.
Betting tip: Quite simply… bet on 2-0 to Kilmarnock! Odds for that are given at 25/1 and could prove to be superb value.
Inverness v Motherwell (3.00pm)
Home win: 2/1 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 13/10
Key stat: Motherwell aren’t second in the table by chance. Excluding leaders Rangers, they have more away league wins than anyone else.
Betting tip: A Double Chance bet on either a Motherwell victory or a draw, at 7/20, looks a very safe bet as Motherwell travel to the bottom-placed side.
St Johnstone v St Mirren (3.00pm)
Home win: 29/20 Draw: 2/1 Away win: 39/20
Key stat: The last three SPL encounters between these teams have ended scoreless.
Betting tip: Another 0-0 draw is priced at 25/4, and with both these sides coming into the game having failed to score in each of their last matches, another scoreless match wouldn’t be a great shock.
