After a manic cup weekend it’s back to SPL action. And with a few potentially one-sided games on the fixture list there are plenty of bets to be made, especially on some clean sheets across the country.
Saturday, January 14th
St Johnstone v Rangers (12.30pm)
Home win: 17/4 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 13/20
Key stat: After a superb away run to start the season Rangers have gone on to concede in four of their last five matches away from Ibrox.
Betting tip: St Johnstone come into this one after three straight wins and will be confident of taking something from this clash. And given that the last two meetings between these two in Perth have seen the home side score, a bet on the Saints to simply get on the scoresheet, at 39/50, should be considered.
Celtic v Dundee United (3.00pm)
Home win: 13/50 Draw: 17/4 Away win: 19/2
Key stat: Celtic have won eleven domestic games in a row to move ahead Rangers in the league.
Betting tip: With eight of those eleven wins seeing the Hoops keep a clean sheet don’t expect United to score in this one. Celtic beat this weekend’s opponents 1-0 in Dundee just a few weeks ago and are priced at evens to win to nil again.
Dunfermline v Hibernian (3.00pm)
Home win: 19/10 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 27/20
Key stat: Dunfermline haven’t scored in three SPL games and have conceded ten goals in those three games.
Betting tip: These are the worst two teams in the SPL going by recent form. Dunfermline haven’t won a league game since the first week of November, while Hibs are winless in nine SPL games. With Hibs coming from behind to win in the cup last weekend, however, they look like they could get their first three points in three months against a side yet to win a home league game. A bet on Hibs to win with under 2.5 combined goals in the game, at 17/4, makes a lot of sense since it should be a tight game.
Aberdeen v Kilmarnock (3.00pm)
Home win: 6/5 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 11/5
Key stat: Kilmarnock’s one away win and just seven away goals make them the worst away team in the SPL.
Betting tip: With Aberdeen keeping the ball out of their own net in their last two home games, a clean sheet against poor travellers Kilmarnock looks very possible and is at odds of 17/10, while a home win to nil is priced at 13/5.
Motherwell v Inverness (3.00pm)
Home win: 19/20 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 27/10
Key stat: Over the last three seasons Motherwell have won four of their seven meetings with Inverness.
Betting tip: Two of those wins were 3-0 and the odds on a repeat of that scoreline are 16/1. The other two Motherwell wins in the last three years have been 3-2, a scoreline which is given odds of 25/1 for this weekend’s game.
Hearts v St Mirren (3.00pm)
Home win: 18/25 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 4/1
Key stat: St Mirren haven’t won in their last six meetings with Hearts, scoring in just two of those half a dozen games.
Betting tip: With Hearts not conceding at Tynecastle in three games, they should pick up another clean sheet against a Saints side they play well against. Odds of 11/10 are given for St Mirren to go home without a goal. And if Hearts win to nil, then odds of 8/5 would be the reward for a punt on that outcome.
