Wednesday, December 28th
Celtic v Rangers (7.45pm)
Home win: 19/20 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 14/5
Key stat: The Old Firm have met during the festive period in each of the last three seasons, with Rangers not winning any of those holiday time games, losing twice and drawing once.
Betting tip: With Celtic winning eight SPL games in a row, the home side should expect their strong record against Rangers during the holiday season to continue, especially with their rivals suffering a 2-1 loss at St Mirren on Christmas Eve. A double chance bet on a Celtic win or a draw looks a safe one with Rangers looking very unlikely to pick up a win. That bet is priced at 1/4.
Aberdeen v Hearts (7.45pm)
Home win: 33/20 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 8/5
Key stat: Aberdeen haven’t even scored against Hearts in the last five meetings between these sides.
Betting tip: With Hearts winning 4-0 and 2-0 in their last two matches, expect the Jambos to win this one to nil against an Aberdeen side who just cannot seem to score against them. The odds on an away win to nil are 31/10.
Motherwell v Dunfermline (7.45pm)
Home win: 21/50 Draw: 16/5 Away win: 25/4
Key stat: Dunfermline have taken just one point from their last six SPL matches.
Betting tip: The Pars show no signs of improving given that the last two games in their terrible run have seen them concede seven, while scoring none themselves. A multiple correct score bet on Motherwell to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 is definitely worth a look at odds of 8/5.
Hibernian v Inverness (7.45pm)
Home win: 13/10 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 2/1
Key stat: Inverness have scored in their last four away games, while Hibs haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven games at home.
Betting tip: A bet on Inverness to simply get a goal, at odds of 17/50, certainly looks a wise one, as does a punt on Hibs to concede first, something they have done in their last four SPL games at home. That bet is on at 6/5.
St Johnstone v Kilmarnock (7.45pm)
Home win: 3/2 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 9/5
Key stat: St Johnstone have lost three in a row at home, scoring just once in those three.
Betting tip: A bet on Saints to lose at home again without even scoring, as they did against Celtic and Motherwell in recent weeks, is priced at 333/100. St Johnstone did run out 3-0 winners at Dunfermline on Christmas Eve, however, and could bring that form home against a Kilmarnock side they haven’t lost to since November last year. A double chance bet on a St Johnstone win or a draw, at 2/5, could therefore make sense as it’s not often a team loses four straight at home.
St Mirren v Dundee United (7.45pm)
Home win: 9/5 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 3/2
Key stat: Three of the last four meetings between these two have been 1-1 draws.
Betting tip: Giant-killers St Mirren may prefer to be hosting the league leaders again on Wednesday since they have a better record at home against Rangers than they do against Dundee United. Saints haven’t beaten this week’s visitors at home in nine attempts – a run stretching back to April 2001. Therefore, a more likely result than a home win in this one would be a share of the spoils, and a bet on another 1-1 result is available at odds of 19/4.
