After a dramatic Scottish Cup interlude, it’s back to the relative calm of the SPL, but with a Dundee derby on Sunday, we can still expect an exciting weekend. Before that, though, we’ll see Kilmarnock host Celtic and Aberdeen visit Hearts, while Hibernian head the opposite way as they travel to Inverness. And Motherwell welcome Ross County at the same time as St Mirren and St Johnstone battle it out in Paisley.

Saturday, December 8th
Kilmarnock v Celtic (12.45pm)
Home win: 7/1 Draw: 13/4 Away win: 7/20
Key stat: There have been 18 goals in Celtic’s last four visits to Rugby Park.
Betting tip: The past quartet of Celtic visits to Kilmarnock have produced plenty of goals, with some of them even coming from the home side, at an average of over four per game. A bet on over 3.5 goals in this one at 29/20 could provide the perfect start to your Saturday.
Hearts v Aberdeen (3.00pm)
Home win: 7/5 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 33/20
Key stat: Hearts have scored just two goals in six games.
Betting tip: With only Celtic conceding fewer goals than Aberdeen, there could not be much more of a challenge for Hearts’ struggling strikers. It makes sense, therefore, to back an away clean sheet, which is priced at 2/1.
Inverness v Hibernian (3.00pm)
Home win: 21/20 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 23/10
Key stat: After 20 games in all competitions, still no side has kept a clean sheet against Inverness.
Betting tip: It really has been a remarkable run that Caley Thistle have been on and it’s the reason why they are the league’s top scorers. Back them to grab at least one at home against a Hibs side they put two past away from home in their first meeting. The odds on at least one home goal are 3/20.
Motherwell v Ross County (3.00pm)
Home win: 23/20 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 5/2
Key stat: Motherwell have won just once at home all season.
Betting tip: With Motherwell struggling at Fir Park and Ross County not winning in five matches, this one has a draw written all over it. So punt on the 23/10 odds for a stalemate, or even back a 0-0 correct score bet at 15/2 if you think these two could play out their second goalless meeting of the season.
St Mirren v St Johnstone (3.00pm)
Home win: 31/20 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 6/4
Key stat: St Johnstone have kept clean sheets on their last three visits to St Mirren Park.
Betting tip: The Buddies have not enjoyed the recent visits of St Johnstone and haven’t been in good form recently, despite ending a six-game losing streak a couple of weeks ago. Backing an away clean sheet for the fourth consecutive battle of the Saints could well pay off at a very decent-looking 23/10.
Sunday, December 9th
Dundee v Dundee United (3.00pm)
Home win: 13/4 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 3/4
Key stat: United were 3-0 up by half-time in the first meeting between these two this season.
Betting tip: Against the SPL’s bottom side, Dundee United are huge favourites in this match-up. You won’t get much for the 3/4 odds on an away win, but you’ll get a bit more if you back United to be leading at the break and at full-time once again, which is priced at 17/10.
