Celtic’s match with Dundee United in week 2 of the SPL season was postponed so that Neil Lennon’s side could fulfil a friendly fixture against Real Madrid in America. So, as the rest of the SPL sides prepare to start their second round of fixtures this season, Celtic and United are preparing to meet for the first time in what has been a starkly contrasting season for both sides so far.
Peter Houston’s men have won just three games so far and sit in a lowly tenth position in the SPL table, while Lennon’s side top the pile by two points having played a game less than the sides directly below them.
But the Arabs will take heart from their 1-0 victory over St Mirren last weekend – their first win since mid-August – and from the fact that they beat Celtic 1-0 at Tannadice in May to halt a five-match winning run from the champions.
Celtic’s unexpected defeat to Kilmarnock last Saturday will also give Houston’s men some hope but, nevertheless, the Hoops are still clear favourites with bwin to get back to winning ways.
The visitors are 11/20 to take all three points on Saturday, while United are 19/4 and the draw is 13/5.
Perhaps the best bet, however, is taking odds of 23/20 on fewer than 2.5 goals in the game.
This bet would have paid out on both SPL meetings between the sides at Tannadice last season, which ended 1-0 and 0-1. On top of this, Celtic’s tempo could be affected by having one eye on next week’s Champions League match against Barcelona, while United’s legs could be tired after their cup tie with Hearts on Wednesday went all the way to extra time and penalties.
New customers who sign up online qualify for a free £20 bet and using that to back fewer than 2.5 goals in the game will return £43.00 if successful.
