Kilmarnock approach their final friendly match before the start of the SPL as favourites to secure victory against Preston North End this evening.
There are several factors which count in Killie’s favour and help to make them 6/5 favourites for the tie.
Firstly, Kilmarnock are the home side, and although they actually had a better record away from home last season, the fact that Preston only picked up three wins on their travels in their entire 2010-11 league campaign suggests playing at Rugby Park will be more of a positive than a negative.
Secondly, Kilmarnock are closer to the start of their competitive season than Preston, with the SPL kicking off on Saturday and League One not getting underway until 6th August.
This means they should be closer to full fitness than their counterparts, who have played four friendly matches to Killie’s five.
Added to this is the fact that Preston failed to beat Falkirk in their last friendly, with the match ending in a 2-2 draw.
Given Preston’s inability to overcome opponents in the league below Kilmarnock, it is little wonder that they are not as well fancied in bwin’s football betting 3Way results market.
A win for Phil Brown’s side is priced at 9/5 and a draw is at 12/5, meaning a successful £25 free bet on Preston to beat Kilmarnock, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £70.
They might be underdogs, but analysis of Preston’s pre-season form to date suggests this bet could yet offer good value.
The Lilywhites are unbeaten in their four games so far and have scored at least two goals in each of their matches.
With Kilmarnock having conceded four against Brechin City last Tuesday, the hosts could have difficulty keeping Preston’s attack under control.
As such, odds of 31/20 on there being more than 3.5 goals in the match could be another bet to consider.
