The first round of matches in the Scottish Premier League is completed this evening when Dunfermline take on St Mirren at East End Park.
Despite being newly-promoted from Division One, Dunfermline are 6/5 favourites to win the match in bwin’s football betting market.
Meanwhile, a win for St Mirren is priced at 2/1 and a draw is available at 21/10.
Dunfermline odds of 6/5 will have much to do with their form at the end of last season when they recorded six wins on the trot and 12 games without defeat to clinch the Division One title by ten points.
Furthermore, Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre is convinced his players can carry their momentum into their SPL campaign.
“The goal is to play at the top level. We are now there but it is up to us to go and prove that we are good enough to be there,” he commented.
“I certainly believe that we are, and believe that the players that I have signed can enhance the Premier League.”
On the other hand, St Mirren’s form was fairly miserable towards the end of the 2010-11 season, with just one win recorded in their final six league matches.
The Saints have also lost four of their last six away matches and, given they only finished two places above Dunfermline on the Scottish league ladder, it is easy to see why the Pars look the best bet to claim all three points.
A successful £25 free bet on Dunfermline to beat St Mirren, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £55.
However, those looking to secure greater returns could consider having a punt on the match to be all square at half-time with Dunfermline ahead at the final whistle, which is available at odds of 9/2.
The reasoning behind this bet is that St Mirren’s last seven matches have been level at half-time.
