Celtic are looking to bring former loan signing Craig Bellamy back to Glasgow in a deal which would surely move them nearer to ending their three-year wait for a Scottish Premier League title.
Already bwin’s favourites for the SPL, the addition of Manchester City player Bellamy to the Celtic ranks would be a significant statement of intent from manager Neil Lennon.
The speedy forward was a huge hit at Celtic Park when on loan from Newcastle in 2005, scoring seven goals in 12 league appearances and nine in 15 overall.
With this in mind, Celtic would be well-placed to end Rangers’ domestic dominance and secure the title for the first time since 2008 at odds of 3/4.
A successful £25 free bet on the Hoops to top the SPL standings at the end of the season, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £43.75.
Lennon would need to act quickly to bring Bellamy to Celtic Park before the start of the new campaign, with Celtic’s first SPL match taking place on 23rd July.
The Bhoys are up against Hibs at Easter Road, with Hibernian v Celtic betting pointing towards an away win.
However, the Northern Irishman is not the only person competing for Bellamy’s signature, with Stoke also said to be in the hunt.
Complicating matters is Bellamy’s recently-stated insistence that he is unwilling to play for any Premier League club other than Manchester City.
Speaking in May, the Welshman said he would prefer to stay at Cardiff, where he was on loan last season.
“Man City know my situation. They know I only want to play for Man City in the Premier League, I don’t want to play for anyone else,” he said at the time.
“I hear stories of other clubs and why would I choose them now when I could have chosen them last year? Why suddenly a year later would I want to go to the likes of the other teams.”
While this appears to rule out a transfer to Stoke, Lennon will be hoping that the door is still open on a move to Scotland.
