Celtic need a win against Hibernian today (Wednesday, April 6th) to move back to the top of the Scottish Premier League table after Rangers eased to a 2-0 away win over St Johnstone last night.
The Bhoys are a point behind their city rivals but, with a game in hand, look good to have re-established a two-point lead come the final whistle this evening.
Hibs might be in good form but their recent results against Celtic indicate exactly why Neil Lennon’s side have been made 11/50 favourites to earn three points from the encounter, with a Hibs win priced at 33/4.
Three wins in a row
Celtic might have lost their most recent match – a 2-1 defeat to Rangers in the Co-operative Insurance Cup on March 20th – but their recent form against Hibs makes for better reading.
They have recorded three wins in a row against the Edinburgh side, including a 3-0 rout at Easter Road in January.
Indeed, a shock 1-0 Hibs win at Celtic Park in January 2010 is the only blemish on Celtic’s otherwise perfect record from the two sides’ last six meetings.
With this in mind, a successful £10 bet at bwin for Celtic to repeat their success of earlier this year and beat Hibs 3-0 would return £77.50.
Hibernian’s unbeaten run
Those tempted by odds of 9/2 for the fixture to end in a draw will look to Hibs’ unbeaten run as proof that the match is not a foregone conclusion.
Colin Calderwood’s men are unbeaten in seven matches and won five games in a row on the back of a 3-0 loss to Dundee United on January 30th.
Hibs will also be motivated by a desire to finish in the top six, with Calderwood admitting that a defeat would all but end their hopes of closing the seven-point gap to sixth-placed Motherwell.
A £10 stake on Hibs to either draw or beat Celtic would return £36. New customers can register here to receive a £25 free bet.
