Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti will be looking to inspire his side to a win over FC Rostov of Tuesday in order to move further up the league.
The former Roma and Udinese boss sees his side sitting fourth in the standings, two points behind CSKA Moscow and Anzhi.
While a draw between the top two clubs would be a dream result for Zenit, Spalletti knows CSKA are likely to win, which means his side can leapfrog Anzhi with a win at the Petrovsky Stadium.
Regardless of what happens above them in the league, Zenit are well placed to see off Rostov, who currently lie 12th in the league standings.
Zenit have lost just two of their 12 games so far this season and in Danko Lazovic and Aleksandr Kerzhakov boast this season’s most prolific front men.
Lazociv is the league’s top scorer with eight goals from 11 outings, while Kerzhakov has chipped in with five from nine.
With such talents at their disposal, it is little wonder that Zenit go into this tie as clear favourites.
The hosts are seen as a 13/50 shot to get the victory by bwin, while the draw offers odds of 9/2 and the away win is priced at 17/2.
However, anyone tempted by the latter would do well to look at the recent history between the two clubs.
There have been no draws in the last five clashes, but while Rostov have been victorious on one occasion, with a 2-1 win, Zenit have run out as winners in the other four, seeing off Rostov 5-0 last time out.
Football betting enthusiasts placing a lot of faith in past results could be tempted to back the game ending in a scoreline that this encounter has seen before.
That is easily done within bwin’s wide range of bets and anyone fancying an outside bet can get odds of 30/1 on Rostov earning a 2-1 win this time out.
However, the odds say Zenit will win, so some of the big money could come from those predicting a winning score for the hosts.
The 5-0 win comes under bwin’s any other score betting, which offers odd of 8/1. Looking at other results between the two though, could point punters in the direction of a 3-1 win (21/2) or a straight-forward 2-0 victory for Zenit (5/1).
