In what is arguably the bigger of this week’s two Moscow derbies, league leaders CSKA will look to put recent history to bed as they face Lokomotiv.
The Army Men have not won any of the last three ties between these two sides, but having not last in their last five games, CSKA are sitting pretty at the top of the Russian Premier Liga.
Conversely, Loko have won just one of their last five, drawing two and losing the others, form which sees Vladimir Maminov’s men sitting sixth in the league, six points behind their local rivals.
As if four wins and one draw in the last five outings was not proof enough of CSKA’s form, they currently top both the scoring and defending charts for the Russian top flight.
Leonid Slutsky’s charges have averaged two goals per game from an attacking front so far this term, while shipping just 0.69 goals per 90 minutes at the other end.
Loko’s defenders will have their work cut out on Wednesday night as CSKA boast a number of prolific attackers.
Seydou Doumbia leads the way for the Army Men with five goals from 11 starts and he has been ably assisted by Keisuke Honda, who has bagged four goals from just nine games.
Even experienced centre-back Sergey Ignashevich has been getting in on the act, having also found the back of the net on four occasions from 13 starts.
However, the game will be anything but a walk in the park for CSKA as, despite their current run of form, Loko are among the league’s top scorers.
The Railroaders have hit an average of 1.57 goals per game this term and with no player in the squad notching more than three, the goals have been shared, meaning a host of players are capable of coming up with the goods at any time.
With all that said, form is a key indicator to the outcome of any game and as such, CSKA’s betting odds of 4/5 look to be a fair reflection of recent events.
The draw can be backed at 5/2, while the unlikely away win is available at 16/5.
With such tight odds on the home win, football betting enthusiasts could be tempted to use their free £25 bet from bwin in some of the other markets.
Using these funds to back CSKA to win to nil at 39/20 would offer returns of £73.75 if successful.
CSKA can also be backed to score in both halves at 37/20, to win 1-0 at 27/4 and to secure a 2-0 victory at 31/4.
