Wigan go to Lancashire rivals Blackburn on Monday night with both sides desperate for points in their quest to remain in the Premier League.
The Latics hold the advantage with 37 points – putting them two clear of the drop zone – and a draw here could secure their top-flight status for next season.
Meanwhile, the picture is far more troubling for Blackburn, as anything but a win will condemn them to relegation to the Championship.
Looking at the potential goalscorers in the match, it is understandably Blackburn’s Yakubu that leads the way in the betting.
His goals have proved valuable and without his addition, Rovers would probably have been doomed well before now.
He has already scored 16 league goals this season but hasn’t found the net in his last three outings and has scored just three in 11 games.
Blackburn need to win the match to stay alive and when big performances are needed, Yakubu normally steps up to the plate.
Of late it has been the youngster Junior Hoilett impressing the most, but only one of his seven leage goals this season has come in the last seven matches. The Canadian is 8/1 to get the first goal and 9/4 to score in the 90 minutes.
Wigan are finishing the season in impressive fashion and recorded a remarkable 4-0 win over Newcastle at the DW Stadium last weekend, with Franco Di Santo rounding off the scoring to take his tally to two goals in three games.
However, winger Victor Moses has been their form player in recent weeks and his two goals in the first 15 minutes against the Magpies took him to six for the season and he is an 8/1 chance to get the first goal of the match for a second week in succession.
Looking at some of the bigger prices, Blackburn’s talisman David Dunn has to be considered. He generally gets chances every game with his late runs from midfield and at 10/1 to score the first goal, he is well worth his place on the shortlist.
Morten Gamst Pedersen is also 10/1 and his free-kicks have found the net a couple of times already this season, making the 11/4 about him to score any time a potential player.
Wigan centre-back Gary Caldwell has also chipped in with a vital goal or two this season, so if you are looking for a mammoth payout, 33/1 to score the first goal could be the answer. He is the same price to score the last goal of the match, just as he did at Anfield in the recent 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
As mentioned earlier, Blackburn need to win the match to stay alive and when big performances are needed, Yakubu normally steps up to the plate.
The 7/5 about him to score any time in the match appeals, but we are going one step further and advise a bet on Yakubu to score the first of the match at 5/1.
