A low-scoring draw looks to be on the cards at Molineux on Saturday as Wolves entertain Newcastle.
None of Newcastle’s Premier League away games have featured more than two goals this season, with Alan Pardew’s side keeping clean sheets in two of their three games on their travels and scoring just twice.
Meanwhile, Wolves have only scored twice in three home league fixtures so far this season and although their defence has been more porous, Newcastle’s recent record on the road suggests their attack will not be in a position to exploit this deficiency.
As such, a high-scoring thriller appears out of the question and instead two hard-working teams are likely to cancel each other out.
A draw is available at odds of 11/5 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, although given three of the two teams’ last five encounters have ended 1-1, punters could choose to back this scoreline to secure more attractive returns.
With odds of 19/4, a £25 free bet on the game to end 1-1 would return £143.75.
For a safer bet, odds of 1/2 on Wolves scoring no more than once.
When the Old Gold’s average of 0.66 goals a game at Molineux so far this season and Newcastle’s status as the best defensive team in the division are taken into account, it seems unlikely that Wolves will have too much joy in front of goal.
However, those who think the game could yet end with a winner can get odds of 29/20 on Wolves picking up three points.
This makes Mick McCarthy’s men slight favourites for the victory, with Newcastle at 37/20 despite their unbeaten status in the league so far this season.
