Everton’s home advantage makes them short 53/100 favourites to beat Wigan in bwin’s 3Way football betting market.
However, the Toffees’ stuttering start to the campaign means Wigan could yet emerge from the game with something to show for their efforts and are attractively-priced to do so.
Victory for the Latics is available at 11/2, although it is the draw at 11/4 which perhaps represents the best option for punters.
Aside from a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City – and the Citizens’ early-season form means this could almost be considered a respectable scoreline – Wigan have started the season in encouraging fashion.
Draws against Norwich and Swansea preceded a 2-0 home victory over QPR and although the Man City defeat has checked their progress, Roberto Martinez will be optimistic about his side’s chances at Goodison Park.
Everton might have picked up four points from their last two league games, but their win against Blackburn was fortuitous given Rovers missed two penalties and victory was only secured with a last-minute Mikel Arteta spot kick.
And while the Toffees picked up a point in their last game against Aston Villa, it should not be forgotten that they lost 1-0 at home to QPR in their first match of the season.
This suggests that David Moyes’ men have yet to hit their stride this season and makes odds of 53/100 on an Everton win too short to consider backing, with a draw or Wigan win in the double chance market looking like good value at 7/5.
Alternatively, consider odds of 83/100 on there being fewer than 2.5 goals scored in the match.
Defensive solidity has been key for Wigan this season, with two clean sheets recorded and just one goal conceded in the three games before the Latics’ last outing at the Etihad Stadium.
Meanwhile, the first two games of Everton’s league season saw a total just two goals scored before the trend was bucked in the 2-2 draw with Villa.
With Wigan likely to try and keep things tight and hit Everton on the counter, goals are likely to be at a premium.
A successful £25 free bet on there to be no more than two goals at Goodison Park on Saturday, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £45.75.
Meanwhile, a combination of Everton’s unconvincing start and Wigan’s better-than-expected form means a draw looks the most likely result, and with so few goals expected a 1-1 scoreline looks a good option at 11/2.
