A run of three consecutive defeats suggest Wigan are vulnerable to a resurgent Tottenham at the DW Stadium on Saturday.
This is reflected in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, where Spurs are odds-on at 9/10 to take all three points.
A draw is priced at 47/20 and a Latics victory at 3/1, although following the arrivals of Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker there seems little point in looking past a win for the away side.
Spurs have won their two league games since being heavily defeated by the two Manchester clubs in their opening two matches of the season, with this upturn in fortunes coinciding with the availability of Adebayor and Parker.
Although a Carling Cup defeat on penalties to Stoke in midweek will have checked their progress, this hiccup should not prove too difficult to get over given the match featured a number of fringe players.
In contrast to Tottenham, Wigan’s season seems to be slowly unravelling after a promising start.
Unbeaten in an opening sequence of three fixtures against clubs newly promoted to the Premier League, Wigan have since lost to Man City, Crystal Palace and Everton.
One of Wigan’s biggest problems has been a lack of goals, with a 2-0 win over QPR the only time they have hit the back of the net more than once in their six competitive fixtures so far this campaign.
With Spurs having kept a clean sheet in each of their last four outings, a bet on Wigan to score fewer than two goals on Saturday looks to be a banker at odds of 17/50.
Meanwhile, those who think Spurs can keep a fifth consecutive clean sheet can back them to do so at odds of 33/20 or to win to nil at odds of 23/10.
A successful £25 free bet on Tottenham to win to nil would return £82.50.
However, perhaps the best bet is on Spurs to be level with Wigan at half time before going on to win at odds of 17/4.
This is based on the fact that Tottenham have only scored once in the first half of league matches so far this season but have scored six times in the final 30 minutes.
