With the Premier League season beginning this weekend, one of the main betting markets is who will be relegated from the top flight. Here, I have chosen three teams who I feel look most likely to fall through the trapdoor.
Football betting fans who use their free £25 bet from joining bwin.com to follow my selections in a treble could win a cool £318.75 at odds in excess of 11/1 if the prediction proves correct.
Norwich City – 7/10 to go down
After being the surprise package of the Championship last season, and gaining a second promotion in two years, Norwich are favourites to go straight back down. To begin with, the Canaries have signed players from League One, such as Elliott Bennett and Anthony Pilkington, and they may find the leap to the Premier League a bridge too far.
Furthermore, after letting in 58 goals last season, more than anyone in the top six of the Championship, they will certainly leak goals. Although they are rated at a relatively short 7/10 to finish in the drop zone, Norwich would be my best bet.
Wigan Athletic – 2/1 to go down
With the final day going their way last season, Wigan finally look to have run out of luck this season. Wigan had the second worst goal-scoring record in the Premier League last season, managing just 40 in total. Companied with the loss of Charles N’Zogbia to Aston Villa, and loanee Tom Cleverley back to Manchester United, Wigan have lost two players who scored 13 goals between them. And at great odds of 2/1, Wigan are a very good bet to go down.
QPR – 3/2 to go down
This season, I fear for QPR more than any other Premier League team. Uncertain owners giving Neil Warnock almost no money to improve the squad, bar the signings of DJ Campbell and Jay Bothroyd. I worry that Warnock may be the sacked if results go bad, and with that Taarabt possibly leaving in January, leaving QPR in a very poor predicament. At 3/2, they are a decent bet to go down, and in my view, better than the highly favoured Swansea.
