Wigan Athletic remain the favourites to be the third team relegated from the Premier League this season, but the Latics, Sunderland, Newcastle United, Norwich City, Southampton, Aston Villa, Fulham and Stoke City are all odds-against as the battle to avoid the drop reaches a dramatic climax.
With Queens Park Rangers and Reading already gone, Wigan are the 5/4 favourites to join them in the Championship next season, but the Latics can give the entire bottom half the jitters if they win against Swansea City tonight at the DW Stadium.
That would move Roberto Martinez’s side on to 38 points and out of the relegation zone at the expense of Newcastle, who would move in on goal difference.
The Magpies, who drew 0-0 with West Ham at the weekend, are still available at 17/4 to go down.
That is a bigger price than both Norwich and Sunderland, who are also level on 38 points.
The Canaries, defeated by Aston Villa at Carrow Road on Saturday, are 13/4 second favourites to be relegated, while Sunderland, who played out a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at the Stadium of Light last night, are 4/1.
Southampton have slipped back into relegation contention after a late 1-0 loss at Tottenham on Saturday and are now just four points above Wigan having played a game more.
The Saints are still available at 20/1 to go down, which is shorter than Aston Villa, who are 22/1 after moving on to 40 points with two games left as their impressive upturn in form continues.
Also on 40 points are Fulham, and having thought they were safe some weeks ago, the Cottagers are now nervously looking over their shoulders.
Martin Jol’s side are 33/1 to go down ahead of this weekend’s home clash against Liverpool.
