West Ham are reportedly keeping tabs on Granada left-back Guilherme Siqueira’s situation on loan at Benfica ahead of a potential summer move for the highly-regarded Brazilian.
Coach Sam Allardyce is expected to hand on-loan Colombian Pablo Armero his second start for the club in the Irons’ ‘problem position’ at Arsenal, with the visitors 6/1 to win for the third time in five away games, the hosts 21/50 for victory and the draw 7/2.
Allardyce stalwarts George McCartney and Joey O’Brien are currently injured and with Armero likely to return to Napoli come the season’s end, and Razvan Rat’s Upton Park career at an end after just 11 Premier League starts, West Ham are expected to move for a new left-back this summer.
Siqueira was thought to be on the verge of a move to Real Madrid at the end of last August, but instead left Granada to sign for Benfica on a season-long loan.
The 27-year-old has made 17 Primeira Liga starts for the runaway Portuguese top-flight leaders, who have kept nine clean sheets in the last ten domestic games Siqueira has made the teamsheet for.
His Andalusian registration-holders insist that Benfica have first option to sign the former Inter Milan youth, who is yet to play for his country of birth and holds duel Brazilian and Italian citizenship, for less than £6m.
However, with West Ham, Real and Liverpool all thought to be interested in securing Sequeira’s services ahead of ‘crazy’ Jorge Jesus’ side, the player would be within his rights to hold out for better offers once the silly season starts.
Premier League title favourites Liverpool’s problems at left-back have been well documented, with the 7/10 top-flight jollies forced to play young England man Jon Flanagan out of position due to Jose Enrique’s fitness problems and the poor form afflicting on-loan France international Aly Cissokho.
Los Blancos are also reportedly keen to renew their interest in Sequeira, although fellow Brazilian Marcelo’s status as number one left-back at the Bernabeu means the six-footer would likely be downgraded to squad-player status in Madrid.
