Arsene Wenger has reiterated his belief that both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri will be around to help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League title come August.
Fabregas has once again been the subject of a summer transfer saga involving European champions Barcelona, while Nasri has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City after stalling on the signing of a new deal at the Emirates.
However, Wenger told Sky Sports News that he had not given up hope of both players being part of Arsenal’s first team squad when the Gunners’ new Premier League campaign gets underway on Saturday, 13th August against Newcastle.
In an interview with the news provider, Wenger was asked whether he though it possible that the club would be able to resist the advances of Barca and City.
“Yes, why not?” he responded.
“One, will [Nasri] be at the club next season? I say yes. Will he sign a new contract? I hope yes, but I’m not the only one who decides that.
“Cesc loves the club. We know the story from Barcelona goes on for years now, but hopefully we will be able to close that for ourselves to focus on the season, hopefully with Cesc Fabregas.”
Both players staying would significantly boost the chances of Arsenal landing the Premier League title for the first time since 2004.
