It’s now more than seven and a half years since Arsenal last won a trophy and their prospects of ending that drought this season took a major hit last night when they were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by Bradford City.
The Gunners went a Premier League season unbeaten in 2003/04, won the FA Cup in 2005 and reached the Champions League final in 2006 under long-time manager Arsene Wenger.
But such has been Arsenal’s fall from grace over the last few seasons that they are now odds-on to remain trophy-less while Wenger remains in charge.
It’s 7/10 that the north London side fail to land the FA Cup, League Cup, Premier League or Champions League with Wenger at the helm, while you can get 6/5 on the Frenchman turning Arsenal’s fortunes around and claiming a trophy.
Of course, in Wenger’s eyes finishing fourth in the league is as good as winning silverware and if this is how success is measured then Arsenal’s prospects look far healthier.
Arsenal are odds-on at 7/10 to win at least one of the three trophies they are still technically in contention for this campaign (the Premier League title, FA Cup and Champions League) or finish in the top four.
Meanwhile, they’re priced up at 6/5 to not only miss out on the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League but also fail to secure a top-four league finish.
For Arsenal fans looking for a silver lining, the good news is that the Gunners have an easy run of fixtures – at least on paper – over the next couple of weeks.
Up next for the Gunners are trips to Reading and Wigan and a home game against West Ham and those who still believe in Wenger’s restorative powers can get an enhanced 10/3 on Arsenal winning all three.
New customers to bwin qualify for a £20 free bet and using this to back the Gunners to beat Reading, Wigan and West Ham will win £86.67 if the punt proves successful.
