He may be courted by Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Barcelona, but bwin makes Wayne Rooney odds-on to still be at Manchester United at the end of the summer transfer window after reports suggested boss David Moyes wants to keep the former Everton striker at the club.
Rooney’s future at Old Trafford has been in some doubt since former manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed at the end of last season that the England striker, who endured an inconsistent 2012/13 campaign, handed in a transfer request, the second time in two-and-a-half years that the England hitman has expressed a desire to leave the club.
Although Rooney denied asking for a move, the forward’s unhappiness is clear. Either played out of position or omitted altogether from some of United’s biggest matches last season, it seemed highly unlikely that he would have stayed at the club had Ferguson not retired.
But new United boss Moyes, who has been linked with a series of forwards including Napoli’s Edinson Cavani, Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski and, most intriguingly, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, apparently wants to meet Rooney for clear-the-air talks before the Red Devils squad meet for pre-season next week (and after Rooney has attended Glastonbury Festival, apparently).
And with Rooney reportedly willing to start afresh, bwin goes 4/5 that he stays at United beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea are the 7/2 favourites to be Rooney’s next club after new manager Jose Mourinho expressed his admiration for the player, while Arsenal are 4/1 after boss Arsene Wenger suggested the Gunners would be interested in the 27-year-old should he become available.
Real Madrid are also 4/1, while Paris Saint-Germain are 6/1. All other clubs range from 18/1 and upwards to sign Rooney before September 4th.
