After a torrid opening three games, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be hoping a win against Swansea at the Emirates can kick start their season, despite a raft of injuries and suspensions.
There is no doubt that the Frenchman will be looking to Robin van Persie for inspiration as the Gunners aim to notch their first victory of the new campaign on Saturday.
The striker scored the first goal of the match on five occasions last season, but it is worth noting he was out injured until late December so his first goal did not come until New Year’s Day.
From then he scored 18 goals in 25 appearances and he is rated at 11/4 to break the deadlock against Brendan Rodgers’ men. If Van Persie gets the first goal of the match, new bwin customers who use their £25 free bet to back this outcome will get a return of £93.75.
For a safer bet, Van Persie can be backed at 3/5 to score at any time and given that he will be on penalty and free-kick duty there is every chance he will find the net.
The only other player to score an Arsenal goal this season is Theo Walcott. He missed England’s win over Wales on Tuesday with a tight hamstring but should be fit to start. The flying winger is 13/10 to score at any time and 6/1 to grab the first goal of the match.
Among some other interesting names on the list is new signing Mikel Arteta, who got the only goal on his last Everton appearance away to Blackburn. The Spaniard is likely to start and bwin go 7/1 he scores first.
Meanwhile, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was magnificent for England U21s on Monday night and he is 9/5 to score at any time, but he may have to settle for a place on the Arsenal bench once again.
Looking at Swansea, they are yet to score in the league this season after three matches, but Scott Sinclair could be their main danger throughout the season.
He lit up the Championship play-off final with a stunning hat-trick and bagged 19 goals in England’s second tier last season.
The former Chelsea man was the first goalscorer in nine of Swansea’s games last season (only three times away from home) and bwin make him 10/1 to score first at the Emirates and 31/10 to score at any time.
However, it is hard to look beyond an Arsenal player to score first as the Swans’ struggle to break their duck and Van Persie could well be the answer.
