QPR head into their third London derby of the month on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Loftus Road last weekend, and the clash with Tottenham at White Hart Lane should prove another difficult encounter for the R’s.
Lacking in pace throughout the team, with the exception of Armand Traore and Shaun Wright-Phillips, Neil Warnock is likely to instruct his side to defend deep in an attempt to counter the pace of the likes of Jermain Defoe, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon.
This could favour Rafael van der Vaart, who will find plenty of space on the edge of the Rangers box, and he heads into this fixture full of confidence having scored four goals in his last three league games, in each of which he has scored first.
The Dutchman looks too good to ignore at 4/1 for first goalscorer, and is priced at 7/5 to score at any time in the game. Team-mate Luka Modric demonstrated his ability from distance in the recent victory over Liverpool, and also looks tempting at 11/4 to hit the back of the net at some point.
With numerous chances likely to fall their way, Emmanuel Adebayor (4/1) and Defoe (5/1) are the obvious favourites to get the goalscoring underway.
One player who will be desperate to impress should he feature is former Spurs youngster Adel Taarabt, who has so far struggled to find the form he showed last season in QPR’s Championship winning campaign.
However, the Moroccan has more than enough quality on his day to unlock any defence, and might be worth a shout at 11/4 to break his duck for the season and score at any time against his previous employers.
Rangers fans will know all too well the quality that Harry Redknapp’s side possess in the form of England international Kyle Walker, who spent the first part of last season on loan at Loftus Road and became a major hit in west London.
The marauding right-back wrote his name into the Spurs history books following his winner in the 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the last league game at White Hart Lane and could be worth considering at 7/1 to grab a goal against his former team-mates.
Goals have been at somewhat of a premium for Warnock’s side this season, having managed to find the back of the net more than once in a game on just one occasion, that coming in the 3-0 away win at Wolves.
Heidar Helguson has, however, scored the first goal of the game in their previous two fixtures and the experienced striker can be backed at 9/1 to make it three in three and open proceedings, which could prove good value considering he is responsible for spot-kick duties.
