Manchester United will take on Fulham at Old Trafford on Saturday but will be without in-form talisman Wayne Rooney.
The FA upheld a two-game ban for the England striker, who launched a foul-mouthed outburst at a television camera after completing a hat-trick against West Ham last weekend.
Despite Rooney’s absence, the Red Devils are clear favourites to win at odds of 9/20, which means a successful £10 bet on United to triumph would return £14.50.
And after their victory against Chelsea in the Champions League last night, they should be full of confidence and keen to extend their already comfortable seven-point lead on second-placed Arsenal.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have suffered two defeats in their last six games and a slip up now could prove costly and upset their current 1/5 odds to take the Premier League title.
A Fulham victory is currently priced at 6/1 and they certainly arrive in Manchester on a high after sealing a solid 3-0 win against Blackpool at Craven Cottage last time out.
But their recent form – just two wins in six games – suggests that it will take something special from Mark Hughes’ players if the three points are to be taken back to west London.
Interestingly, the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw when they met back in August, which may go some way to explaining the slightly shorter odds of 3/1 for a sharing of the spoils.
With four of the league’s top scorers wearing United shirts, the likelihood of a no-goal finish is slim, so a smart move might be a bet on Dimitar Berbatov at 7/10 to get his name on the scoresheet.
The sulky Bulgarian is fighting for his place and has Mexican star Javier Hernandez snapping at his heels, but he is still odds on at 3/1 to open the scoring at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, putting a £10 stake on Bobby Zamora to score first would return £85, with a similar wager on Clint Dempsey would bring back £100.
