Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid well and truly opened the floodgates of vitriol from sides who had fallen victim to the Blues’ Premier League bus-parking antics.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are 9/10 to turn their frowns upside down and rediscover their attacking side when Norwich visit west London.
It looks like a price well worthy of investment given the Canaries have lost by at least two goals to every other member of the top-seven they’ve played away this term.
In the meantime here’s how Joe and Josephine public saw the story of their European demise:
Chelsea fan @ThePhilMount was driven to comfort eating.
Perhaps he should sign up with bwin.com for a £30 free bet on the Norwich game:
Eaten a whole tub of Haagen-Dazs in an effort to quench my Chelsea sadness #ChelseaAtleti
Meanwhile @Ackergbogzie turned to conspiracy theories in the depths of his denial:
#stale “@herdeybayor: Torres y did u score ur former team??? U drew the first blood and may b caused it !!! #ChelseaAtleti #UCL”
However, fellow Blue @reecebt29 was on hand to offer some much needed perspective.
3 European finals in a row would have just been greedy anyway! This way gives other teams a chance #ChelseaAtleti #ChampionsLeague #Chelsea
The comedy riffing on a ‘parking the bus’ them reached mass sufficient to have its own gravitational pull, but we’ll allow @Joeharrysamuel the oxygen of publicity as his effort was in the spirit of self-deprecation:
Looks like we needed a bigger bus #ChelseaAtleti #ChampionsLeague
All in all though news.bwin.com/en/ echoes the obvious-bantz hating sentiment of @_paulthomas_:
Come on Twitter, #Chelsea bus jokes and Terry lifting the cup anyway are getting seriously boring now! #moveon #ChelseaAtleti
Go on then @jhana11m, one more:
Chelsea should have learned to drive the bus too.. #ChelseaAtleti Well deserved win Atletico Madrid!
Naturally fans of rival Premier League clubs pained by the Stamford Bridge club’s winning pragmatism earlier in the campaign were queuing up to put the boot in:
@MartinLavelle76 hit Jose Mourinho with some painful facts:
So, that’s two CL semi-final wins from eight for Jose…but of course, he NEVER loses the big games, LMFAO. #Karma #ChelseaAtleti
Red Devilish @Petmanbaba made a poignant comparison between the Special One and David Moyes:
David Moyes has won more silverware than Mourinho this season #ChelseaAtleti #MUFC
And who could blame @Angry_Arsene_for raising an eyebrow:
Jose Mourinho – 2 trophies won out of a possible 14 available in the last 4 years. £272,440,000 spent in that time.
Lest we forget, Diego Simeone’s feat in coaching Atletico to the Champions League final is a monumental achievement, yet as @_Golah points out it’s not even his biggest masterstroke this term.
The best part of Simeone’s work isn’t beating Chelsea. It’s getting €5m for Demichelis 6 weeks after signing him for free #ChelseaAtleti
