Monday’s instalment of your coffee break gossip distillate is awash with loaded words from players, managers and…er, The Daily Star.
It’s with the red-topped purveyors of transfer truth that our round-up begins.
Aymeric Laporte – Athletic Bilbao to Man Utd
Athletic Bilbao’s 20-year-old centre-half has long been a La Liga talking horse, with Barcelona and Arsenal thought to have been interested in his services as far back as last summer.
The wires had hardly been buzzing with news of United’s interest lately, but the Daily Star’s Jack Wilson reports that a deal to bring the Frenchman to Old Trafford is now 80 per cent done ‘according to sources in Spain’.
Before Reds get too excited however, it’s worth noting that the Star’s intrepid reporter doesn’t so much as hint at the origin of his claims.
Laporte is as short as 3/10 to be playing under Louis van Gaal by January 1 2016.
Moussa Sissoko – Newcastle to Arsenal
The claims surrounding his countryman may have more than a whiff of spuriousness surrounding them, but speculation about Sissoko has been emanating straight from the horse’s mouth of late
In an interview with French TV show Telefoot, the 25-year-old said:
‘If something should happen, it will happen.
‘England remains my priority. If Arsene Wenger calls me? We will have a discussion man to man. Arsenal has always been the club of my heart.’
Mario Balotelli – Liverpool to Juventus
Despite his continuing goal-getting travails Balotelli has was a subject of discussion for Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri, who told Italian newspaper Tuttosport:
‘All coaches like to train the best players. But Balotelli is a Liverpool player and I think first he has to think about playing well, sacrificing and giving his best – especially to show everyone who says he is an important player.’
Balotelli is 6/5 to leave Anfield before the end of the January transfer window.
