Manchester United have been cut further for the Premier League title as both they and Manchester City won over the weekend, while Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are all odds-on for a top-four finish. At the bottom of the table, Queens Park Rangers, Reading, Aston Villa and Wigan Athletic are all shorter than even money to be relegated, with Southampton next in the betting.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s men remain 12 points ahead of neighbours Manchester City after beating Queens Park Rangers 2-0 at Loftus Road to go 1/50 (from 3/100) to win the division. City beat Chelsea at the Etihad, also 2-0, and stay 14/1 to retain the title.
Despite that defeat, Chelsea are still 1/5 to finish in the top four, ahead of Tottenham Hotspur (7/10), who play West Ham United tonight, and Arsenal, who are also odds-on at 4/5, in from even money, after they beat Aston Villa 2-1 at the Emirates to move within one point of fourth place.
At the other end, four sides are odds-on to be relegated after a bad weekend for most of the struggling sides.
QPR’s home defeat to United means Harry Redknapp’s rock-bottom side are 3/25 to go down, just ahead of Reading, who were beaten by relegation rivals Wigan 3-0 at the Madejski Stadium, a result that sees the Royals go from 11/25 to 3/10 for the drop, while the Latics are now 19/20 after climbing out of the bottom three.
Aston Villa are the final team odds-on to be playing Championship football after that loss to Arsenal saw the Villans fall back into the relegation zone, with Paul Lambert’s team a 7/10 chance, from 17/20.
Southampton are the next team in the relegation betting, but you can get 9/2 (from 5/1) on the Saints returning to the second tier, despite their 4-2 loss to Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
