After reports emerged today that Jermain Defoe is one of a number of players that are available for transfer from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, bwin are betting on where the England striker will end up – with Liverpool the clear favourites at 5/2.
With Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas keen to reshape his squad after missing out on Champions League football to Arsenal on the last day of the Premier League season, it has been reported that up to ten current members of the Spurs squad are surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane next season.
Those are said to include Scott Parker, Brad Friedel, Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Tom Huddlestone and Andros Townsend, but the most high-profile of the players is certainly Defoe, who has scored 133 goals for Tottenham in two spells at the club.
But despite hitting 15 goals in all competitions last term, the 30-year-old struggled for form and fitness during 2012/13 and seemed to fall out of favour with Villas-Boas, who preferred Emmanuel Adebayor towards the end of the campaign.
And now that the England international is supposedly up for sale, bwin have opened a market on his next club this summer and make Liverpool the 5/2 favourites to sign the striker.
The Reds could be in need of forwards should Luis Suarez, who is agitating for a move away from Anfield, get his way (see our Suarez transfer market by clicking here).
Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton are next in the betting at 10/1, while Newcastle United, who have doubts over the future of their star striker Papiss Cisse, are 12/1 to sign Defoe.
Defoe’s old club West Ham United, who have been linked with a move for the striker in recent weeks, are 14/1, with Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal 20/1 to get the former Portsmouth striker to cross the divide.
bwin go 47/100 that Defoe is still a Tottenham player after the last day of the transfer window.
