Odds on Liverpool to win the title might only be 10/1, making them fifth-favourites in the betting market, but Reds striker Luis Suarez believes his side are in with a shout of claiming their first league crown since 1990.
In an interview with LFC Weekly, the Uruguayan said Liverpool’s form since the arrival of Kenny Dalglish in January suggests they could be major contenders in the new season.
A successful £25 free bet on Liverpool to win the title, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £275.
“We’ve been playing well and I think we’ve been getting into the type of form that we know we’ll have to keep up for a whole season if we want to be title contenders,” Suarez told the news provider.
“This is something we’re optimistic about for next season and if we can hit the ground running and maintain the good form, then I think we’ve got a good chance of doing well.”
However, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard believes a bet on his side to claim a top four place would be a more realistic option.
The 18-times top-flight champions are 5/4 to finish in a Champions League qualification spot, putting them behind Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal in the pecking order.
Gerrard, who was speaking to the same publication, said it would be “stupid” to raise expectations on the back of a successful six months.
He also said new additions to the squad are needed for them to start thinking of title glory.
“Getting in the Champions League will be the main aim,” Gerrard commented.
“Hopefully we’ll add some more players to strengthen the squad and then we need to compete.”
