Manchester City are now just 3/1 with bwin to sign fellow Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic after the Citizens reportedly firmed up their interest in the Fiorentina front man as they look to replace the Juventus-bound Carlos Tevez.
Tevez was allowed to go to the Italian champions for just £8 million last month, leaving new City boss Manuel Pellegrini searching for an adequate replacement as he attempts to wrestle the Premier League title back from neighbours Manchester United in his first season in charge.
Fiorentina yesterday announced the signing of forward Mario Gomez for around £17 million from Bayern Munich, further intensifying speculation that the Serb is ready to leave La Viola and with a reported £27 million release clause in his contract, there is little the club can do to keep Jovetic should another team meet that fee.
And it is now being reported that City have turned their attention to Jovetic as they look to fill the gap in the squad that exists after Tevez completed his move to Juventus.
It was initially thought that Juventus would sign the Serbian international, who struck 13 goals last season, but the poor relationship between the two clubs may have put paid to that.
The Old Lady’s director general, Giuseppe Marotta, said last week: “A lot has been said about Jovetic but difficulties in our relationship [with Fiorentina] has made any deal difficult.
“At the moment I don’t think it will be possible, but a lot could happen between now and the beginning of September.”
Real Madrid are the favourites with bwin to land Jovetic, being quoted at 7/4, but there doesn’t appear to have been much interest from the Spanish giants and City, priced up at 3/1, look as though they are in pole position.
Juventus are 4/1 to keep Jovetic in Serie A, while Chelsea, themselves on the lookout for a top striker, are 5/1 to land the Serbian.
Arsenal, also thought to be long-standing admirers of the former Partizan hitman, are 11/1 in the midst of their chase for Madrid star Gonzalo Higuain, not to mention their surprise £30 million bid for Luis Suarez.
Fiorentina are 19/20 to keep hold of Jovetic beyond September, and it is 18/1 that he signs for any other club.
