Emmanuel Adebayor’s days at Man City appear numbered after the striker revealed he would not be travelling to the US to take part in the club’s pre-season tour.
The revelation will no doubt alert Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp, who has been linked with a move for the Togo striker.
Spurs are in desperate need of more firepower after their attacking quartet of Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe and Roman Pavlyuchenko managed just 17 goals between them in the last Premier League campaign.
A bit-part player at Eastlands last season, Adebayor made only six starts for the Citizens before being loaned to Real Madrid in January.
However, 48 league goals in the previous three seasons suggest he would fit in well at White Hart Lane, although supporters would need convincing given his past association with Spurs’ bitter rivals Arsenal.
Either way, his time at Eastlands appears to be coming to an end after being informed he would not be part of the first team squad travelling to the US.
“I just received an email from Brian Marwood’s secretary, a lady at the club called Claire, telling me to report for training on 9th July,” Adebayor told the Sun.
“But when I spoke to the other players, I found out the first team was leaving for the pre-season tour of the USA on 8th July.
“So it’s clear they don’t want me here but no one even called. Brian Marwood just got his secretary to send me an email.
“And I heard this was the same with at least six other players”
Should he move to Spurs, the north London side’s odds of qualifying for next season’s Champions League would surely be shortened.
