You can still get 1/2 on Jermain Defoe ending transfer deadline day as a QPR player, and while rarely reticent Super Hoops coach Harry Redknapp hasn’t yet been available for comment, the west Londoners are refusing to rule out a move.
As Sky Sports repeatedly remind us, Redknapp does seem to like working with players he has had in the past, and capturing Defoe for the R’s would unite the former Spurs pair for the fourth time.
Redknapp picked up the 31-year-old at Portsmouth in 2008, before buying him back for the Lilywhites a year later when in charge at White Hart Lane.
Sky are claiming that the striker is in England, but with Newcastle also said to be keen on acquiring the services of a man who bagged 123 Premier League goals for Pompey, Spurs and West Ham, bwin.com go 7/5 that Defoe will end the day at any club other than QPR.
What seems certain at this point is that Defoe will not return to the MLS, after Toronto FC sacked his former Spurs teammate Ryan Nelson as manager, following a run of three wins from the Canadian side’s last 13 fixtures.
With that in mind, backing Defoe to be a Loftus Road fixture for the coming campaign makes sense given his Redknapp connection, especially considering the former Irons youth would expect plenty of game-time at QPR now Loic Remy has left for Chelsea.
The west Londoners are also thought to have made a bid for Spurs midfielder Sandro, who has been frozen out under Mauricio Pochettino and is set to fall further down the Lilywhites pecking order when Benjamin Stambouli completes his move from Montpellier to north London.
The Brazil international is also 1/2 to make the move west, with 7/5 saying he finishes the day at any other club.
