Tottenham are looking to boost their chances of finishing in the top four by revamping their forward line.
With Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane having fired blanks for much of last year, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is looking for fresh blood to help his team secure a spot in the 2012-13 Champions League.
Leandro Damiao is one of his targets, with the Brazilian’s club Internacional apparently resigned to losing the 21-year-old.
However, Tottenham are not the only team interested in the starlet, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also rumoured to be keen on bringing in Damiao as a replacement for the outgoing Nicklas Bendtner.
Another striker on Redknapp’s radar is Roma’s Mirko Vucinic, with discussions underway between the two clubs in an attempt to broker a deal.
Again, Spurs are not the only side competing for his services, with Juventus also in the hunt.
Worryingly for the Lilywhites, the Montenegro international, who scored ten goals in Serie A last season, would apparently prefer a move to Turin.
Defoe, Crouch, Pavlyuchenko and Keane managed just 17 goals between them for Spurs from a combined 92 appearances, highlighting the extent of Redknapp’s problem.
Should he be unable to bring in a fresh face or two then there will not be many bets placed on Spurs to finish above Liverpool and Arsenal at odds of 13/2.
But if Damiao and Vucinic can be coaxed to White Hart Lane then a bet on Spurs to finish in the top four at 7/2 will be much more tempting.
A successful £25 free bet on Tottenham to end the season in a Champions League spot, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £112.50.
Spurs get their 2011-12 Premier League campaign underway at White Hart Lane against David Moyes’ Toffees on 13th August, with Spurs Everton odds making the home side favourites.
