Two wins on the bounce will have given West Brom some much-needed Christmas cheer but they’ll have to be as miserly as Scrooge to stop free-scoring Manchester City from getting anything from their Boxing Day clash.
The Citizens are still averaging over three goals per game in the league and have amassed 25 goals in just eight games away from home. During midweek, mid-table Stoke were belligerently swept aside and with five defeats at the Hawthorns so far this season, many Baggies fans must be fearing a similar fate.
Certainly City’s dominance is reflected in bwin’s 3Way football betting market with the league leaders 21/50 to collect another three points with West Brom at 23/4 and the draw at 18/5.
Roberto Mancini’s men have only won one of their last four on the road and their previous league win away from the Etihad Stadium was the none-too-convincing 3-2 scrape at QPR.
However, eleven goals at White Hart Lane and Old Trafford show how much class City have in their ranks and if they get it together, there could be plenty more coming as a late Christmas present to the travelling support.
The rigours of the festive period and big New Year clashes with Liverpool and Manchester United means Mancini may shuffle his ample pack, but that doesn’t necessarily mean any let-up in quality.
Mad Mario Balotelli was rested against Stoke so expect him to return and be back among the goals. Balotelli is 3/1 to open the scoring – something he’s done five times so far this term.
Sergio Aguero is slightly shorter at 11/4 to kick things off but a better bet for Kun would be to score two or more. The little Argie has done that on four occasions this season and if City can move through the gears, 5/2 for him to do it again looks like good business.
One other player who’s always worth a wager on the goalscorer market is Adam Johnson. Mancini doesn’t seem to fancy him in the big games but with five goals in 11 against the others, the England winger is a good shout to score any time at 9/5 and certainly worth a few quid at 7/1 to score last.
New customers who sign up for a bwin account are entitled to a free £25 bet and utilising that on Adam Johnson to finish things off at 7/1 will earn you £200.
But far from being all City, West Brom have got a few of their own irons in the fire. Despite scoring plenty, City have only kept one clean sheet on the road in the league all campaign and the Baggies have enough attacking talent to register here.
Peter Odemwingie has suddenly clicked into gear with two in his last two and he’s best priced for the hosts to score any time at 5/2 with Shane Long at 13/4 and the insatiable Paul Scharner always dangerous from set-pieces at 7/1.
