Manchester City stars David Silva and Yaya Toure found themselves at the centre of what is likely to be one of the season’s more light-hearted controversies on Monday.
The Citizens opened the scoring against West Brom after nine minutes through a Toure shot that took a deflection off Silva on its way into the Baggies net.
After a fair deal of initial confusion, Toure was credited with the strike and his first, last anytime goalscorer backers were paid out as a result.
The decision to award the Ivorian the strike initially seemed set for posterity, despite the pair’s post-match Twitter exchange…
Me and @21LVA will have an arm wrestle to settle who scored the first goal!! Hope you guys enjoyed my second!

@YayaToure the goal is mine, thanks for the assist, I will assist you hopefully many times during the season!!!!

However, belatedly the Premier League Goal Accreditation Panel vindicated the Spaniard in his Toure trolling with this Thursday tweet.

As a result bwin have paid out not only backers of any bet that featured the Africa Cup of Nations winner netting the opener against West Brom, but also all wagers, initially chalked off as losers, that included Silva as first goalscorer in the fixture.
The pair are near inseparable in the market to bag first against Chelsea this weekend, with Toure 8/1 to his teammate’s 17/2.
