West Ham are reportedly close to signing former Paris Saint-German star Nene as they look to bring in cover for Andy Carroll, who is out for the season through injury.
The 33-year-old Brazilian fits the bill as he is available on a free transfer having left Qatari club Al Gharafa in January.
But what kind of player are in the Irons in danger of procuring? Read on to find out.
Nene has enjoyed something of a journeyman’s career with spells at three Brazilian clubs before he earned a move to Spain.
The Brazilian’s main attributes are lighting-quick feet and a wand of a left foot that makes him a grave threat from dead-balls within shooting range.
He played for three different Spanish clubs before moving to Monaco, who loaned back him to Espanyol.
However, it was at Paris Saint-Germain where he really made his name, netting 36 times in 79 league games for Les Rouges et Bleus.
Capable of playing either from the wing or at centre-forward the Nene’s Parc des Princes high-water mark came in 2011/12 when he finished joint-top goalscorer in Le Championnat with Olivier Giroud (then at Montpellier).
Admirable composure from the penalty spot saw him punish 18-yard-box indiscretions 11 times across the season.
He also set up a whopping 11 goals for his teammates in the same campaign, meaning he played a direct role in 43 per cent of PSG’s strikes that term as they fell just short of winning the title in their first season as one of the Europe’s super rich.
Unfortunately for the Brazilian, new manager Carlo Ancelotti was unmoved and marginalised him to the point where he sought a move away from the club.
While choosing Al Gharafa may seem unambitious when it’s considered Nene had offers from AC Milan, Schalke and Besiktas, he still struck 20 times in 43 league games during his two seasons in Qatar.
West Ham are 17/5 to claim a third successive White Hart Lane win over Tottenham.
