Arsenal’s fans and players alike must wish that this season had started on February 26th.
Since their stunning comeback to win the North London derby, the Gunners have consistently produced performances displaying their genuine quality and resilience in equal measure, two facets of their play which had been sadly lacking for the first two-thirds of the season.
Arsenal have won eight of their last nine Premier League matches and will be confident of getting the points, not to mention some goals, against a Wigan side struggling for survival.
And yet the Latics’ recent form has brought hope when previously there was only despair.
A first-ever victory over Manchester United last week was as unexpected as it was deserved and made it three wins from four for Roberto Martinez’s side.
Two goals in his last two home games makes Mikel Arteta an attractive proposition at 7/4 to score at any time, while Tomas Rosicky, whose recent upturn in form has mirrored that of his team as a whole, is on offer at a tempting 11/4 to notch at least once.
Shaun Maloney got the winner against the champions – his second goal in his last four games – and given that he has got the taste for goals, the 11/2 offered for him to score at any time tonight could appeal.
Having said that, Wigan have struggled badly this season to find the net, with their three joint top scorers having just four goals apiece. Putting your hard-earned cash on them to score at the Emirates might just be too much of a gamble.
Instead, the wiser money will be spent in the Arsenal scorers market and of course, Robin van Persie will attract a lot of attention.
The price of 11/20 for him to score at any time may look a little short, but for a player of his quality facing one of the worst away defences in the division, it is still worthy of some consideration.
More value perhaps might be had in backing him to score two or more goals at 9/5, something he has done on nine occasions this season.
Failing that, bwin customers would be crazy not to get stuck into our price of 9/4 for the flying Dutchman to score first, which cannot be beaten by any other bookmaker.
Punters registering with us can use their free £25 bet on Van Persie breaking the deadlock and will win £81.25 if the former Feyenoord man obliges.
Elsewhere, two goals in his last two home games makes Mikel Arteta an attractive proposition at 7/4 to score at any time, while Tomas Rosicky, whose recent upturn in form has mirrored that of his team as a whole, is on offer at a tempting 11/4 to notch at least once.
Recommended bet: Robin van Persie to score first @ 9/4
