Peter Odemwingie has suggested that West Brom are ready to put a definitive end to Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes.
The Citizens already find themselves eight points adrift of leaders and local rivals Manchester United after being comprehensively outplayed in their 1-0 defeat at Arsenal at the weekend.
And with the Baggies now all but safe from relegation following a 3-0 win over Blackburn, Odemwingie believes they could be primed to heap more misery on City when the two teams collide at the Etihad Stadium.
“We now have more confidence and we’re more relaxed,” said the Nigerian, who is priced at a tempting 5/2 to score in Wednesday evening’s clash.
“Hopefully that will help us perform against City. It will be an interesting game because we want to continue enjoying our season.
“To make our season even better it would be nice to get some points against one of the big teams.”
City’s alarming loss of form – they have won just one of their last five league games – is reflected in their title odds drifting to 13/1 in the wake of that damaging defeat at the Emirates.
With ten-goal Odemwingie and his colleagues collecting 22 of their 39 points this term on the road, their price of 9/1 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market could attract some speculative action.
City, for all their troubles, are 13/50 favourites to at least prolong their duel with United by recording a 16th victory in 17 home league matches, while the draw is available at 17/4.
And if you fancy Odemwingie to strike first in Manchester against a City rearguard which has looked shaky of late, he is at a very large-looking 9/1, with the same price on offer for him to score the final goal of the game.
