Harry Redknapp has urged Luka Modric to stay at Tottenham and achieve his goals with the north London side rather than move to Premier League rivals Chelsea or Manchester United.
Spurs made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season but failed to qualify for the 2011-12 competition after finishing fifth in the league.
Speaking to the Daily Mail last week, Modric said that the Lilywhites’ inability to secure entry into European football’s elite club competition meant he would be seeking a transfer away from the White Hart Lane this summer.
He said he wanted to move to a “bigger club” so he could play in the Champions League and challenge for the Premier League title.
However, Redknapp told BBC Radio 5 Live that he believes Modric could realise both of these aims at the Lane as long as chairman Daniel Levy loosens the club purse strings.
“He sees the chance to win the league and play Champions League football, but we want that as well,” Redknapp said.
“We have to show him our ambition. If we can add one or two players, we can have another great season.”
Tottenham are 7/2 sixth-favourites to finish in the top four next season with bwin.
With these odds, a successful £25 free bet on Spurs to qualify for the Champions League, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £112.50.
A more ambitious bet – but one which offers better returns – would be on Spurs to win the league.
This is available at 40/1 with bwin, meaning a successful £25 free bet would return £1,025.
With Modric, Gareth Bale and Rafael van der Vaart working in tandem with one or two major signings then this might be worth a punt.
But remove Modric from the equation and it could be another season of disappointment for Redknapp.
