The Luis Suarez transfer saga has taken another twist today with the news that Liverpool have rejected a £30 million bid from Premier League rivals Arsenal – but bwin still make Real Madrid and Chelsea more likely to sign the Uruguayan this summer.
Rumours swept the football world last week that Suarez could be about to make a surprise move to Arsenal as a flurry of bets drove down the price on the Gunners signing Liverpool’s star man from 80/1 to just 2/1.
If it seemed unlikely given Suarez’s public comments about being unhappy in England because of the press intrusion into his everyday life – something a move to London would do little to improve – then the news today that Arsenal have had a £30 million bid rejected at least proved that the rumours were based in some truth.
There is a school of thought that suggests that the bid by the Emirates outfit is a move to hurry Real Madrid into selling Gonzalo Higuain, who is close to a £23 million move to Arsenal.
But nonetheless, the Gunners’ bid has given a surprising twist to one of the transfer sagas of the summer.
Real Madrid had been thought to be the frontrunners following Suarez’s none-too-subtle come-and-get-me pleas when on international duty at the Confederations Cup, where he stated that “it would be very difficult to say no” to a move to the Bernabeu.
Indeed, the Spanish giants are the 7/4 favourites to be the Uruguayan’s next club, with Arsenal, despite their bid, now out to 3/1 to sign Liverpool’s No.7.
Interestingly, bwin make Chelsea just 2/1 to sign Suarez this summer after rumours of an imminent bid from the Stamford Bridge club.
Liverpool insist the player is not for sale and the Anfield club are 2/1 to hang on to the controversial striker until January at the earliest.
Suarez is 16/1 and bigger to sign for other clubs.
