Manchester City and Chelsea look set to miss out the £50 million-rated Edinson Cavani after the Napoli forward admitted that that Real Madrid are the club he would like to sign for this summer – and bwin now go odds-on that the forward ends up at the Bernabeu.
Uruguay international Cavani, currently representing his country in the Confederations Cup in Brazil, is one of the most coveted players in the world after a brilliant three-year spell with Napoli, where he has scored 104 goals for the Italian club.
He looks certain to leave Rafael Benitez’s side this summer, with the Serie A outfit powerless to stop him signing for a club that meet his reported £53 million release clause and plenty of suitors, including the Premier League pair, in the mix.
But even though Chelsea have, by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis’ own admission, entered talks with Napoli to sign Cavani and City’s interest goes back to previous manager Roberto Mancini, it seems that Madrid are in pole position to sign the Uruguay star.
After Cavani’s father told the press last week that his son wanted to join the Spanish giants – “Cavani’s intention is to play for Madrid, he is excited about it and is very willing to see it through” – the player himself has now given his clearest indication yet that he wants to ply his trade in La Liga next season.
Cavani told the press: “I am very calm about my future. Madrid are a great club and every player dreams of playing there. So far, however, officially, nobody has spoken directly with me to make me an offer.
“I am a Napoli player for now, though, and I’m focused on the Confederations Cup.”
bwin make Madrid 17/20 to sign Cavani – the same price as Chelsea, despite all the signs pointing towards Los Blancos being the Uruguayan’s next club.
Manchester City are 3/1 to prise the former Palermo hitman away, while he is 11/2 to still be playing for Napoli after the summer transfer window.
It is 28/1 and bigger that Cavani signs for another club.
