Edinson Cavani has been linked with nearly all of the Premier League’s big six over the course of various transfer windows, but Chelsea would be wise to act now.
According to the French publication Mercato365, the Blues have contacted the Uruguayan forward’s agent about the possibility of signing the striker in the summer.
In the same article linking the Paris Saint-Germain man to Stamford Bridge, the publication labels the 29-year-old’s time in France as a “mixed spell”.
This is a criticism that has followed Cavani during his entire two-and-a-half-year spell with the Parisians and this assessment is unfair.
The hulking forward scores more than a goal every other game for the Ligue 1 leaders and his 72 goals in 129 appearances indicate he has a keen eye for goal.
This is even more impressive considering the former Napoli man has had to settle playing out on the right in order to stay out of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow.
The enigmatic Swede is undoubtedly the star man in Paris and this has seen Cavani largely ignored and at times heavily criticised by PSG fans.
Supporters in the Parc des Princes argue that the £50m signing hasn’t lived up to his price tag in comparison to Ibrahimovic, but this is understandable given his position and it should be taken into account that he does in fact have an impressive goal tally.
Chelsea should take advantage of this disharmony in the French capital to bring in a quality forward and show him the love he should be getting now.
Partnering Cavani with Diego Costa would create a lethal and powerful pairing, while moving Costa on is another option.
The Brazilian-turned-Spanish attacker’s lethal touch in front of goal seems to have slowed, with the former Atletico Madrid man only notching 13 in all competitions this term.
Ateti are believed to want the 27-year-old back and moving him on in order to bring in Cavani would be best for all involved.
